Welcome back to Autumn Term 2
Welcome back to the second term of the academic year - we are looking forward to another action packed and rewarding term in the run up to Christmas.
Last term there was so much to celebrate - the children settled quickly into their new classes and expectations around the behaviour policy. The whole school earned over 5000 house points in 7 weeks! Very impressive and the winning team - Team Wentworth (BLUE) enjoyed a bowling experience in Barnsley with all the staff of Blue Team too. However the most memorable event has to be the day the whole school went out to visit their Team Houses on Friday 4th October. It was an incredible day and the special memories created were unforgettable.
Many house points were achieved through recognition of the children taking responsibility for their own learning. Homework has been completed to a high standard and the number of children reading for pleasure has greatly improved too. Please do keep encouraging your children to read daily and learn their spellings and times tables too as they will be rewarded by this and it has a positive impact on their academic outcomes. We want all children to achieve their full potential.
The first termly challenge of the year was to learn as many RE facts as possible - our children blew us away with their thirst for knowledge. They are now experts in being able to state facts about the key religions. They have show great respect and resilience to do this. All children who achieved 100% achieved a gold star - a quarter of children achieved full marks. Next term it is Geography - KS1 have to learn facts about continents and oceans and the UK, KS2 are tasked with knowing the countries and capital cities of Europe!
Another highlight of the term has been the work we've completed around inspiring your children about their futures. Our first STEM Careers day was very successful. The children were able to experience and learn more about careers in STEM. Our youngest children enjoyed dressing up in their future roles - a lot of doctors, police officers and even a few archaeologists!
This coming term has many educational visits planned for the children - Year 6 are going to Crucial Crew on the 5th November, Year 3 and 4 have a Stone Age experience at Nell Bank, Reception children are off to the Kirklees Light Railway as part of their transport topic. KS1 children will be going on a visit before Christmas - we are awaiting confirmation for the booking so I do not want to spoil the surprise! Nursery children will be having some fun with Little City on the 13th November.
This term is a very busy one - we will keep you updated via Arbor and the weekly newsletter but please do not hesitate to ask the school office if you have any questions. We have plenty of opportunities for parents to join us in school in the run up to Christmas so please do keep an eye on the school calendar.
We look forward to seeing you all after the half term break and cannot wait to see what your children will achieve this term,
With very best wishes,
Mrs Karen Brown
Headteacher
