Computing
Computing Statement of Intent
At Cherry Dale Primary School, we believe that our pupils are entitled to a broad and balanced computing curriculum which is exciting and engaging, with a structured, progressive, approach to the learning of how computer systems work, the use of IT and the skills necessary to become digitally literate and participate fully in the modern world. We want our pupils to understand that there is always a choice with using technology and as a school we utilise technology (especially social media) to model positive use. Our curriculum does this by encouraging children to be responsible, respectful, active citizens who contribute positively to school and the wider community, which ties in closely with our school vision of the 5 expectations of excellence.
Our curriculum has been structured so that all our pupils, particularly the most disadvantaged are skilled and confident in their independent use of ICT, so they can communicate, be safe and apply their skills to current and evolving technologies. Through computing, we aim for our pupils to be confident when using a range of different technologies and in a variety of different skills including, computing, programming, online safety and the use of a range of media. We review our curriculum continually to ensure it meets their needs and that of our local community, whilst preparing them for the next stage in their education.
We aim to ensure all pupils:
- can understand and apply the principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems are responsible, competent, confident, and creative users of information and communication technology.
